Starting Salary: Up to CL28/Step25 $73,375 (commensurate with experience)

Location: San Antonio or Austin, Texas

The Office of Information Technology for the United States District Court, United States Probation Office, and United States Pretrial Services Office for the Western District of Texas is currently seeking qualified applications for the position of Audio/Visual Specialist. The Audio/Visual Specialist will install and maintain state of the art audio visual technology in courtrooms, conference rooms, and collaborative spaces, including evidence presentation, video conferencing, sound systems, interpreter equipment, digital recording, video/audio calling such as used with Skype for Business, and other audiovisual systems as needed.


The Audio/Visual Specialist will be based in Austin or San Antonio; however, it is a district-wide position, which necessitates the incumbent to travel to all seven divisions and six satellite offices equating up to 50% travel for this position. Routine travel between San Antonio, Austin, Waco, Del Rio, Midland, Fort Hood, El Paso, Pecos, and Alpine. The Audio/Visual Specialist reports to an Information Technology Supervisor.


Specific Duties (include, but are not limited to the following)

  • Conducting needs assessments to determine technical requirements;
  • Researching, evaluating, designing, and recommend new audio-visual equipment;
  • Troubleshooting equipment and related systems;
  • Scheduling and performing hardware and software installations;
  • Performing ongoing routine maintenance and enhancements;
  • Supporting the court’s audio and video needs, sometimes under high pressure situations;
  • Developing user guides and operating procedures for new equipment;
  • Training staff;
  • Establish and maintain effective productive working relationships with vendors, contractors, customers, and coworkers; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of two years progressively responsible specialized experience related to the technical aspects of voice processing systems, audio-visual systems, complex telephone systems, IP protocols and their use in videoconferencing, and the integration of these systems with existing data networks, including the accomplishment of complex project assignments that involve systems analysis, design, programming, implementation, integration, and management;
  • Extensive technical knowledge and experience in working with sound systems and their design, including terminology and methodology.
  • Excellent analytical skills, interpersonal skills, and teamwork skills, as well as the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, with users at all levels.
  • Highly organized, possess sound judgment, and a high degree of initiative.
  • Experience with audio-visual and structured cabling is a plus.
  • Adeptness in establishing and maintaining effective and productive working relationships with vendors, contractors, customers, and co-workers.


Desired Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in business, information systems, public administration or related field is highly desirable.
  • The following certifications and training are preferred: AVIXA, SynAudCon, CEDIA, Certified Technology Specialist (CTS), BICSI RCDD Installation, Extron XTP Systems Technician, AV Associates, or Control Specialist/Professional.
  • CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) certification must be attained within six months of hire.
  • Project management experience, including implementation of Agile methodology a plus.
  • The successful candidate should be highly organized, possess sound judgment, and a high degree of initiative.
