Lighting and Visual Designer

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

The lighting and visual designer is a key member in a Stark Raving Solutions (SRS) design team throughout a project: proposals, presentations, design, implementation, documentation and support. The designer uses the required tools and software to create lighting system, media systems, scenic and soft-good designs to meet the specifications, budgets and functional requirements of a project.

 


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Participate as a key member of a functioning team.
  • Design lighting, control, display, scenic and staging systems based on client’s building,
    needs, budgets and existing equipment.
  • Document details of design for communicating with client and SRS teams and clearly
    communicates technical and creative aspects of the systems to technical and non-technical
    people.
  • Provide accurate designs using VectorWorks and computer simulations early in the design
    stages to avoid costly changes later in project implementation. This includes use of
    projection calculators, light level analysis, visualizations, renderings, 3D simulation and
    measurements to ensure SRS and industry standards are met or exceeded by the design.
  • Works closely with the installation team for successful integration of systems designed.
  • Support sales and business development teams in creating proposals and presentations to
    partners and potential clients including equipment, new system deployments, upgrades,
    and expansions.
  • Commission AVL system after installation, including programming, testing, calibration,
    focusing, initial settings and palettes and working with end users through first use of
    systems.
  • Provide training, procedures and accurate as-built documentation to end users.
  • Attends site visits, job walk-throughs and participate in installations.
  • Manages multiple projects and tight deadlines that are often part of the job and carry out
    responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Support end users locally and remotely, including training, troubleshooting, service and
    repair.
  • Expect to be away from your desk 25% of the time performing duties assigned in town,
    regionally and nationwide; travel out of town varies by season, 10% of year average.
  • Pursue continuing industry education including manufactures certifications, industry
    certifications, classes and workshops at tradeshows and other AVL specific education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned as a contributor to overall team goals.
  • Report to VP of Engineering.

 


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in related field or equivalent two-year
    degree and 6+ years’ experience.
  • Four+ years of experience in the physical AVL or production design field with progressively
    responsible system level experience
  • Experience in AVL, network and control system design and implementation.
  • Thorough knowledge and skills in MS Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio etc.
  • Knowledge of or the ability to quickly learn key software platforms DTools (Systems
    Integrator), ConnectWise, VectorWorks, WireCAD, Sketchup, AutoCAD, Revit, Projection
    Calculator, LightWright, DIALux etc.
  • CTS-D Certification or other industry certifications and memberships a plus.
  • Manufacture certifications a plus.
