Automation, A/V, Networking, & Security Installation Technician

Smart Systems is looking for an Installation Technician to join our team!  We are a locally owned and operated, Chattanooga-based company that designs, builds, integrates, manages, and supports custom Residential and Commercial systems that provide audio/video, lighting, temperature control, automation, networking, security, and surveillance collaboration solutions.

This is a full-time, field technician position with daily report to headquarters and travel to job sites.  You will work with a Lead Technician, Project Manager, and Project Engineer to successfully install custom, in-house designed systems - as well as providing post-installation service support to customers.  Work environments will involve electronic and low voltage systems in both residential and commercial settings.


  • Minimum 2 Years of Experience in the Audio Video Industry
  • Prior experience as an Automation Technician, AV Technician, Security Installation Technician, as well as installing teleconferencing, corporate video, access control, surveillance, and other related equipment is desired
  • Control4 or Crestron Experience is a Plus
  • A strong desire to work in and contribute to a successful team environment
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Current and maintainable valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Professional image
  • An attention to detail
  • General construction knowledge
  • Basic computer skills - advanced computer skills are a plus
  • Excellent reasoning skills, particularly in regards to carrying out instructions received through a variety of forms
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent time management skills, such as prompt arrival for work and adherence to a tight installation schedule
  • Must be able to stand, kneel, and crouch for long periods of time
  • Must be able to climb ladders and scaffolding
  • Must be able to lift in excess of 50 pounds
  • Must be able to maintain a safety-minded approach to all activities


  • Constructing racks, pulling cable, and preparing equipment for installation
  • Installing completed racks, projectors, monitors, and related submounts
  • Assisting with testing system components to assure system completeness
  • Using company approved installation methods and techniques
  • Verifying each system’s physical completeness is in accordance with installation drawings
  • Maintaining an on-going dialog with the Lead Installation Technician and Project Manager to ensure that work quality, performance, and materials all meet the required schedules and expectations
  • Turning in daily activity sheets
  • Complying with all aspects of the Employee Handbook, Installation Handbook, and all other company directives


  • The hourly wage for this position is commensurate with experience
